The Sherman Economic Development Corporation will support a program aimed at outreach to area students about career pathways that will be open to them upon graduation. The SEDCO Board of Directors agreed last week to allocate $55,000 toward the third year of Workforce Solutions Texoma’s career navigator program, which sees WST staff go into area schools to provided career training and education.

“They basically go into schools and work with students from the sixth grade through the 12th grade, and they are teaching them about different careers that they might be interested in when they graduate high school,” Workforce Solutions Texoma Deputy Director Marsha Lindsey said.

The program has been funded using a combination of funding from SEDCO and the Denison Development Alliance alongside grant founding from Workforce Solutions. The DDA has not approved funding for the upcoming year, but officials said the funding will be discussed next month during budget talks.
